Assignment 1: On/Off

 

For the On/Off assignment, I decided not use technology for my commute into class one morning. At first, it wasn’t too bad; the natural environment outside was quite beautiful. However, without any distractions, I found myself merely listening to my surroundings, and I chose to sketch the things I heard or noticed. Unfortunately, as the process continued, I developed a headache that only worsened as I became increasingly aware of irritating auditory stimuli, such as an annoying conversation to my right. Not to say that silence from a technology-fueled world is a bad thing, I do wish to include it in my artistic practices as breaks going on in the future, but not as long and in a more controlled environment.
